Benefits of Using Window Films

Save on energy costs, reduce glare, increase safety and privacy, protect your furnishings

Window films provide many benefits, from savings in energy costs to the intangible qualities of a more beautiful view of your surroundings. Depending on the product that you choose, there are a number of benefits to be found by installing window films in your home, office, or retail space.

Reduce Fading of Your Merchandise and Furnishings

Window film blocks up to 100.0% of UV (ultraviolet) rays, known to be the major cause of damage to floors, window treatments, artwork, furnishings, and store merchandise. By reducing fading you increase the lifetime of your possessions and inventory, thereby saving replacement costs and maintaining drapes, paintings, photographs, carpets, and other surfaces far into the future. And by maintaining your store's merchandise, you can keep your valuable items on the showroom floor longer.

Decrease Unwanted Energy Transfer

Window films are one of the most efficient ways to decrease the transfer of undesirable solar energy through your windows, and can provide up to 98% infrared heat reduction when compared to unprotected windows. In addition, window films can reduce temperature imbalances in your home, office, or retail space, creating a more comfortable environment for you and your customers, clients and co-workers.

Reduce Glare

Excessive glare from the sun is one of the most common complaints we hear and one that is easily remedied by the installation of the correct window film. Reduced glare means less strain on the eyes and increased visual comfort when viewing daytime television, working at your computer, and displaying your merchandise for customers.

The True Effects of Visible Light

One potential consumer objection to window films is the darkness of the film. A common perception is that if a window film transmits 35% of visible light it must keep out or reduce visible light by 65%. However, nothing could be further from the truth.

While window films do reduce a percentage of visible light, the human eye does not perceive the reduction like a Spectrophotometer (testing device) does. When determining the specifications for window films, compare the measured VLT (Visible Light Transmittance) of the film against the perceived amount of light that the human eye typically sees, shown in the graph.

As you can see, the human eye only perceives about half of the total reduction of measured visible light.

Some reduction of excessive visible light actually improves vision as too much visible light creates eye straining glare. Reducing glare improves the eye's ability to focus on an object clearly, enhancing depth perception.

The human eye reacts much like the lenses of a camera, opening up to allow more light in to generate vision.

Compared to conventional window films, our selected window films allow for a great amount of visible light while controlling unwanted solar energy.

Save on Energy Costs

Reducing energy transfer in your home, office, or retail space will result in less work for your cooling and heating system by maintaining even temperatures all year round. This translates into lower energy bills and reduced maintenance costs, while increasing comfort.

Increased Privacy

With decorative and privacy films you can subtly change the look of your home, office, or retail space while giving you a level of privacy to suit your tastes. Privacy films are an effective way to provide additional privacy for office workers while continuing to offer a natural view of the outside.

Enhance Your Safety

Window films — especially those with a high safety rating — can help reduce injury in a storm by holding together shattered glass and keeping the shards from entering your home, office, or retail space. The right film can also make it more difficult for a thief to enter through a window, thereby providing an additional crime deterrent.

Protect Against Skin Cancer

Standard, unprotected windows allow nearly all of the sun's harmful UV rays to stream in unchecked, which can damage your skin as if you were outside in the sun. By reducing up to 100.0% of UV rays entering your home, window films act just like a sunscreen, protecting your skin while allowing you to sit comfortably in sunlit areas. In fact, the Skin Cancer Institute now recommends window films as a protection against indoor exposure to harmful UV rays.
